Layla has responded to the publication of the Government's Brexit deal, saying that it "leaves the UK tied loosely to Europe, but with no influence, and shunned by the rest of the world."
“This is a very bad deal for Oxfordshire and for the country. No deal was ever going to be better than the deal we already have as EU members, but this deal leaves the UK tied loosely to Europe, but with no influence, and shunned by the rest of the world.
“The Government have made a total mess of Brexit, their infighting has come as a huge cost to the country already, and this deal threatens local businesses, the NHS, schools, science and our Universities in Oxfordshire. With the prospect of first a transition period and then a ‘backstop’, local businesses will have to endure many more years of paralysing uncertainty as they wait for meaningful detail on the future relationship.
“If this deal doesn’t go through Parliament, which is looking increasingly unlikely, this further uncertainty would prove disastrous for businesses and public services. That’s why, rather than wasting time, money and effort on delivering a Brexit deal with no one, whether they voted remain or leave, signed up for, the Liberal Democrats would give power back to the people. We would give the people the final say on the Brexit deal, with the choice to remain in the EU.”
