Build Back Better

As Britain emerges from the coronavirus crisis, people are beginning to see the opportunity for a transformation of the world as we know it. How can we seize this moment and respond in a way that reassures people, but also drives a new Liberal settlement?

Over 40 contributors were asked to consider progressive policy ideas for Britain after coronavirus, and whether the changed political and economic circumstances require new Lib Dem policies, or whether they reinforce and highlight the case for our existing proposals.

How can we seize this moment and respond in a way that reassures people, but also drives a new Liberal settlement

All contributors have written their pieces in their own individual capacity. Their inclusion in this booklet should not be taken to mean either that they agree with every proposal in it – or that they are supporting me for the leadership.

This is also not a manifesto – there are important topics that are not discussed here – but we have tried to cover the main areas of policy where we think the party would benefit from looking again at existing policies in the light of the pandemic and its impacts.

You can decide for yourself whether you think they met the challenge – but whether they did or not, I hope they stimulate you to think about new ideas and new approaches.
