Government should commit to opening Cowley branch line by 2019

In documents published as part of the Budget the Government have ignored a recommendation by the National Infrastructure Commission to re-open the Cowley branch line “no later than 2019.”

The Government were responding to the National Infrastructure Commission’s recommendation in their report ‘Partnering for Prosperity: a new deal for the Cambridge-Milton Keynes–Oxford Arc’.

Oxford West and Abingdon MP Layla Moran said:

“The National Infrastructure Commission are clear that all the work to allow new rail services between Oxford station and Cowley must be completed “no later than 2019.

“Disappointingly in their response as part of this week’s Budget the Government haven’t committed to that timescale. Ministers must listen to their own Infrastructure Commission, get a move on and make sure that they, along with local councils and other organisations, get the work done and introduce new rail services within Oxford as quickly as possible.”
