Don't Move the Marcham Rd Crossing

I/we, the undersigned, request that Oxfordshire County Council Cabinet decides to keep the Marcham Road crossing at its current site.

It was put at its current site because that is the safest and most convenient crossing point for pedestrians and that is where it should stay.

Please don’t add to the traffic problems of the area! Come and experience getting out of south Abingdon and into north using the bridge between 9:30 – 10:30 am at the weekends, it’s already ridiculous.

This should not be allowed. The roads do not support this!

for safety this crossing must not be moved. In addition, this is not the reason of traffic on Drayton Road. the issue is the McDonalds roundabout!!!

This change will negatively effect the safety of those using the crossing. It is being proposed simply to satisfy the wishes of super-rich developers and is therefore wrong – morally and practically. It is in no way a change that benefits the community and should not be permitted.

Keep the crossing where it is as it’s the safest place

There is terrible visibility as it is. Moving it will make it worse

It is a sad fact these days that a developer can dictate there terms and conditions to a council simply because they have shed loads of money and can fund and win any challenge the council care to throw at them! It is fundamentally wrong that this is happening and I am sure that sometime in the future it will be stopped! Wouldn’t be nice if it stopped right here.

The department for transport guidelines for assessing the need for, and positioning of, pedestrian crossings are qiute specific.

Any decision on siting a crossing requires a detailed study and a two part report to back it up.

Was a proper study carried out, were the County Council given a detailed report to base their decision on.

A question worth asking I think.

The idea is too crazy for words! The crossing must NOT be changed. It will worsen an already chronic, traffic snarled, major junction in Abingdon and endanger lives, particularly school children’s…

Once again South Abingdon has to take more traffic to satisfy developers. A classic example today a major accident Lorry and Coach and Abingdon grinds to a halt and then the developers what to change the road lay out and endanger school children who have crossed safely for years. Do not move the crossings. and open up Abingdon North to a diamond junction.

The double roundabout junction at the Drayton Rd is woefully inadequate for the amount of traffic it has to handle already. Moving the crossing and adding another one would only worsen an already intolerable situation for motorists — while most of the schoolchildren would do what all children do, and “take a shortcut” — crossing where they always have done, ignoring the new crossing, and greatly increasing the danger for themselves and motorists. A highly dangerous and totally ridiculous idea, and one only mooted, apparently, in order to gain permission for the building further down the Drayton Rd.

This crossing needs to stay where it is to allow children walking/cycling to The Unicorn School and Larkmead to cross safely. Moving the crossing will make no difference to the traffic flow from the Drayton Road.

Please don’t move the Marcham Road crossing as it would be so much more dangerous for children on their way to school. Also that is a very congested area for traffic anyway so the changes you propose will make traffic even worse.
