Layla Moran “delighted” that Jo Swinson is new leader of the Liberal Democrats

Layla Moran, Lib Dem MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has said she is “delighted” following the announcement that Jo Swinson will take over from Sir Vince Cable as leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Swinson won against Sir Ed Davey, in a contest that was defined by reasoned argument and debate. She received 47,997 votes to Ed’s 28,021. Turnout was 72%.

Commenting after the result, Layla said:

“I’m absolutely delighted with the result. Jo will be a fantastic leader for our party as we enter our next chapter.

“Both Jo and Ed were excellent candidates. I’d like to say a massive thank you to both of them for a grown-up debate, and a big congratulations to Jo.”
