After much soul searching, I decided that I had to stand for the Vale of White Horse District Council for the Liberal Democrats because they are the only party that was fighting consistently for the Green Belt that was electable, in my view. I believe that we should and can build enough houses and flats in brown field sites and in towns above shops, etc.
I am Abingdon born and bred and believe that Abingdon and the surrounding area deserve a better deal because this area is part of me.
I want to see the culture of villages such as Wootton, Cothill, Cumnor and Sunningwell respected and am prepared to fight for that as a Liberal Democrat and as a member of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. I also want to see District Council financial reserves used to help lessen the effect of cuts, protecting public transport and other services but understand the constraints that the Public Sector face.
I believe in Public Service and am currently Chair of Wootton & Dry Sandford Community Centre Board where we are investing £32,000 to improve facilities and am also proud to be governor at Abingdon and Witney College.
