Moran: Parliament must get back to work “as quickly as possible”

Responding to the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Government’s prorogation of Parliament was unlawful, Lib Dem MP for Oxford West and Abingdon Layla Moran has said that MPs need to get back to work “as quickly as possible”.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Conservative government’s decision to suspend Parliament was unlawful, and that it was designed to stop Parliament from carrying out its duties.
Lady Hale, the court’s president, said that Parliament was therefore no longer prorogued.

Commenting, Layla said:

“This ruling shows just how little Boris Johnson and the Conservatives care about our constitution and the rule of law, lying to the Queen and riding roughshod over our democracy. The Government took unprecedented action that has been found to be unlawful.

“Parliament must now get back to work as quickly as possible. There is so much that MPs need to do to hold this government to account, and no time can be wasted.

“The thousands of people who marched on Broad Street in Oxford to call an end to Parliament’s suspension have been heard. This is a victory for the people.”
