Layla Moran has voted against the Governments Brexit deal, as it faced a crushing defeat on last nights meaningful vote.
Layla got elected in 2017 when she overturned a majority of around 10,000, standing on the platform of being unashamedly pro-EU.
The meaningful vote lead to an embarrassing defeat for the Prime Minister and a big win for opposing parties with a no confidence vote now looming large.
Reacting to the defeat of the Brexit deal Layla said:
“Something has finally changed. The Government are on their knees, and the People’s Vote campaign is now striding forward. The people of Oxford West and Abingdon would never have stood for the clustershambles of a Brexit deal and I am proud to have helped vote it down.
“Staying in the EU means so much to our constituency. I hope this defeat brings relief that Brexit can be stopped to the EU citizens that deserve the right to live here, the hard-working people in the research, university, and car manufacturing sectors, and all my constituents who identify as European.
“We can now push forward and campaign for a Final Say on the Brexit deal. I will ardently represent all my local residents who are the NHS workers, the students, the teachers, the scientists in Oxfordshire that will all be worse off come any Brexit."
