Refusing to extend ban on benefit sanctions is a "heartless decision"

With the economy showing more and more signs of long-term damage, the government needs to think again and ensure the most vulnerable are not left behind.Layla Moran MP has responded to comments from Work and Pensions Secretary Theresa Coffey suggesting the government is refusing to extend the current ban on benefit sanctions.

Responding to the comments from Work and Pensions Secretary Theresa Coffey suggesting the government is refusing to extend the current ban on benefit sanctions, Layla Moran said:   "This is an utterly heartless decision. At a time when millions of families are struggling to pay the bills, the government wants to reintroduce harsh benefit sanctions that they know will hit the most vulnerable.

“Ministers are failing to show the smallest shred of compassion in the midst of a global pandemic. I fear millions will be left without enough support as we emerge from the other side of this crisis.

“With the economy showing more and more signs of long-term damage, the government needs to think again and ensure the most vulnerable are not left behind."
