Layla Moran MP has responded to a new Social Market Foundation report, which reveals severe economic disruption predicted in North West and Midlands if UK exits Brexit transition period without a deal.
Layla Moran has called for the Prime Minister to "put jobs and livelihoods ahead of ideology" and "take the extension he's being offered" following the publication of the Report by The Social Market Foundation ‘Assessing the economic implications of coronavirus and Brexit.’
Lib Dem MP Layla Moran said: “This report underlines the serious damage that crashing out without a trade deal would do to people's livelihoods, with areas reliant on manufacturing hardest hit.
"People and businesses have suffered enough this year. Our economy will still be on the ropes from Coronavirus in December, and a No Deal Brexit would only worsen the stress and anxiety that many employees and business owners already feel.
"If the Government are serious about the leveling-up agenda, they must extend the transition period. At a time of national crisis, we need to put jobs and livelihoods ahead of ideology. It's time for the Prime Minister to tackle the crisis in front of him, and take the extension he's being offered.”
