Layla Moran MP has joined cross-party efforts led by Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Olney demanding the Government provide more funding to the events and enterprise sector, an industry particularly struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Layla has joined 37 MPs who wrote to Chancellor Rishi Sunak, calling for him to prevent the collapse of the crucial industry by providing additional targeted support and committing to a regular review process with clear criteria and industry involvement to assess the ability of Covid-19 secure events to resume at a future date.
The cross-party letter emphasised the importance of the industry to the UK economy, stating the sector generated £70bn of economic impact in 2019 and is employing around 600,000 people.
Layla Moran said: “The health of the events and enterprise industry is so incredibly important to the growth of the UK economy and people’s livelihoods. Rishi Sunak must do more to support these businesses and jobs, but also to ensure that the industry will still be viable when we come out of this pandemic.
“I hope the Government will recognise the importance of the need to act right now to save these businesses and jobs and move swiftly to create tailored support and review process for this industry.”
