Layla Moran: “sensational results” as Lib Dems elect largest ever group to Oxfordshire County Council

“I’m absolutely delighted by these sensational results. The Liberal Democrats have made impressive gains in Oxfordshire against the Conservatives, a ringing endorsement of our hard work in communities across the county. By backing the Lib Dems across Oxfordshire, residents have voted for a greener, fairer and more caring county led by a council that listens.Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has said she is “delighted” by the Lib Dems’ “sensational results” as they gained 8 seats to elect their largest-ever group to Oxfordshire County Council,  adding that it was “a ringing endorsement of our hard work in communities across the county.”

With the party making impressive gains, including unseating the Conservative council leader, Layla added “By backing the Lib Dems across Oxfordshire, residents have voted for a greener, fairer and more caring county led by a council that listens.”

The results put the party in a strong position ahead of the next general election, with Moran saying “it’s clear that only the Liberal Democrats can beat them across Oxfordshire and elect stronger voices for our communities.”

Layla also praised the Green Party for their “impressive” gains in the county.

Speaking after the results, Layla Moran said: “I’m absolutely delighted by these sensational results. The Liberal Democrats have made impressive gains in Oxfordshire against the Conservatives, a ringing endorsement of our hard work in communities across the county. By backing the Lib Dems across Oxfordshire, residents have voted for a greener, fairer and more caring county led by a council that listens.

“The Green Party have also made impressive gains, and I’d like to congratulate their team and thank them for continuing to work with us. The Conservatives’ lack of transparency in running the council, together with their failure to put our planet, young people and investment in health and social care first, means they have lost seats today. Going into the next general election, it’s clear that only the Liberal Democrats can beat them across Oxfordshire and elect stronger voices for our communities.

“Across our region, these results show that the Liberal Democrats are the real opposition to Conservatives who have taken our communities for granted for too long. The people of Oxfordshire have voted for a change, and I’d like to congratulate everyone who was elected today.”
