Layla Moran, Lib Dem MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has today responded to the delay in the Department for Transport releasing death and injury statistics for the A34 for 2018, calling the move “concerning”.
Previously, the Department had informed the MP, in response to a written parliamentary question, that the “figures for 2018 are due to be published in summer 2019.”
Answering a more recent question, however, the DfT this week said that “[t]he annual report on reported road casualties for 2018 will be published in September 2019.”
“The A34 has suffered from high death and casualty rates in recent years, and I am glad that some improvement work has started.
“But it is clear that the Government is entirely consumed by Brexit.
“All of this means that timely transparency from the Government is vital. We cannot let Brexit chaos get in the way of that.
“It is concerning that the Government has decided to delay the release of these statistics.”
