Fewer than 5% of claims made under the Government’s Windrush Compensation Scheme have been paid out, according to official figures.
On Thursday (28th May), The Home Office revealed that it has paid £362,996 to 60 people, including one payment in excess of £100,000, during the first year of the scheme. The data added that 1,275 claims were made by the end of March this year.
Layla Moran MP said: "The Windrush scandal betrayed a generation and the liberal values that make Britain. The least the Government can do is make amends to those they hurt so much.
"The Prime Minister needs to come forward and make a fulsome apology, on behalf of the Government, to those who continue to be treated so shabbily during this sorry saga.
"Britain is open and tolerant, and it's about time the Government dropped its nasty hostile environment agenda for good."
